Message from Our President

Dear Semi-Circle members,

Another year is coming to a close and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped to make 2009 a theatrical success for the Semi-Circle. We have just finished our autumn production at the Helmut Förnbacher Theater and, although we had a great cast and production team, our audience numbers were not great. As a result, the committee is looking into ways to boost our audience for our next production in February in the Baseldytschi Bihni.

As usual we have had the same tried and true helpers for most of our events recently - including the January party and the summer barbeque - as well as at our productions. It would be great if we could see a few more Semi-Circle faces at the events we organise, particularly at our productions. We are always looking for volunteers to help front and back of house, even if only for one evening. It gives newcomers in particular, the chance to get to know other club members, as well as learning the ropes as far as the production is concerned. Unfortunately we seem to have to "persuade" people to help at our performances - even though we have over 100 members in the club!

Similarly, the AGM was very poorly attended. Again it was a shame that more new members did not attend - this is the main meeting of our theatre year and the place where you can air your opinions. It was also disappointing that so few members sent their apologies for not attending. The club can only survive if its members are active both on and off the Stage and this means not just at production times, but also at other social and official functions.

Finally, there are lots of things planned for the coming year; the January party at the QuBa , our February production, play readings, workshops, as well as many other events, so keep posted and I hope to see a lot more of you at our events during 2010.
